HR and Talent Acquisition Manager (m/f/d/n)

  • Berlin, Berlin, Germany
People & Organisation

Job description

At OpenProject, we are building open source project management software that is easy and intuitive to use. Open source, data protection and security are central to our company’s DNA. We’re a team of around 40 people, collaborate remotely, do a lot of our work asynchronously, and are spread across the globe.

To enable our further growth and continuous organizational development, we are looking for an HR and Talent Acquisition Manager (m/f/d/n) - or People & Organization Manager (m/f/d/n) if you prefer that wording - to join our remote team. This is a key role in our organization. You’ll report to Birthe, our co-founder and CMO, and will be part of our leadership team.
Hear from Birthe herself why this role is key for our future development:

Your mission
  • You’ll support us on our journey to create a project management software that users to use.
  • You’ll further develop and implement a People Strategy across all HR functions.
  • You’ll be responsible for talent acquisition (incl. employer branding, active sourcing, etc.) and end-to-end recruitment in close collaboration with our hiring managers and marketing team. The focus will lie on tech roles.
  • You’ll lead or support (depending on your experience in this area) our organizational development (e.g., team structure, shaping collaboration and culture).
  • You’ll make sure our people processes across the whole employee life-cycle run smoothly and are improved further where necessary (e.g., onboarding, feedback and performance management, L&D, offboarding, engagement surveys, benefits, absence management, ...).
  • You’ll help us collaborate effectively in a remote team by creating or improving necessary processes and documentation.
  • You’ll be a sparring partner on all People topics for our leadership team.
  • You’ll communicate with our external payroll offices and EOR providers and collect necessary information from employees.

Job requirements

What you’ll bring

  • You have relevant work experience, including substantial experience in tech recruiting in a start-up or SME, and you genuinely enjoy talent acquisition in all facets. It’s great if you also bring some experience in other fields within HR and organizational development but if not, our position would also be an opportunity to broaden your skill set.
  • You’re a self-starter and enjoy switching between big strategic thinking and hands-on day-to-day tasks.
  • You are proficient in English and German (both written and verbal).
  • You thrive in a remote culture and know how to make it successful.
  • You are proficient in using office documents (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint or open formats) and love learning to use new tools. Ideally, you have some experience using HRMS and/or ATS or even implementing them.
  • You have strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Our “OPENP” core company values resonate strongly with you (O = Open for new stuff, P = Pragmatic (not dogmatic), E = Engaged for clients and colleagues, N = PassioN (Neigung) for OpenProject, P = Proactive and accountable) and you are also interested in the open source principles, data protection/sovereignty since this is a matter we as a team care deeply about.
  • Solid knowledge of German labor law would be a plus.
  • Optional: You think you could have written an even better job ad for this position. 😊

What awaits you

  • You’ll get the best of both worlds: a start-up's creative challenges and learning opportunities and the financial stability and solid customer base of a “grown-up” company.
  • You’ll join a team of around 40 international professionals who love to learn from each other. We’re driven and ambitious, but we don’t have a hustle culture (i.e., we love and respect that our team members have a life outside of work).
  • You will have a tangible impact on our team culture, organizational development, and future growth. We know our product can only be as good as the people who create it, so you’ll have a lot of freedom to shape your role.
  • The flexibility to decide where you would like to work: remotely in any location within a European time zone. We also have a small office in Berlin right next to Gendarmenmarkt.
  • Contributing to an open source project (our software code is freely available on GitHub).
  • You will support us in creating value for exciting clients and users from all around the globe, including NGOs and other open source projects that we love to support in fulfilling their mission, corporates like Audi or Deutsche Bahn, and public institutions like city administrations across Germany.
  • A competitive salary: Underpaying our talents is not an option for us – we believe in the motto “If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.”
  • A range of attractive benefits like financial support of your bike, childcare support or learning & development options.
  • Don’t hesitate to apply if you would like to work part-time. There might be a chance that we could make it possible.

Our hiring process for this role

  • Step 1: A first “getting to know each other” call with our interim HR support Charlotte (20-40 minutes)
  • Step 2: A written case exercise (90 minutes)
  • Step 3: A discussion of your case with Birthe (45-90 minutes)
